The debut single from South-East London duo The Daily is a minimalistic piece that sets up a sound we’ll soon become familiar with. ‘Close Encounters’ is the result of two entirely separate works being blended into a patchwork of looping ambiance. Robotic keyboards and electronic drums on one side, blues-inflected guitars and treated vocals on the other – it’s a juxtaposition that works perfectly. Lyrically, the pair search for a more meaningful life in contrast to the repetitive mundanity that feels all too familiar feelings for most at the moment.
